The links below are to two papers (one an abridgement of the other) by Rodney Decker, professor of NT at Baptist Bible Seminary: "May Evangelicals Dispense with Propositional Revelation? Challenges to a Traditional Evangelical Doctrine." The abridged version was delivered at ETS 2001, and critiques Stan Grenz's book Revisioning Theology, the book that led John Franke to form an association with Grenz (see the preface of Beyond Foundationalism). The author suggests (in an e-mail to me) "you could substitute 'Franke' [for Grenz] in just about every statement there." It seems that a wide convergence of non-evangelical scholars carries more weight than the ongoing consistency within the evangelical mainstream. Liberal critiques of conservative, evangelical positions are more persuasive to Grenz than capable, conservative discussions of orthodox doctrine.
