A reader alerted us to the following:

Special Event
Missional Christianity...Church Beyond Boundaries

Friday, October 10, 2008
on campus

Conference & Formal Installation of
John R. Franke as the Lester & Kay Clemens Professor of Missional Theology
SPEAKERS
Scot McKnight
Tim Keel
David Dunbar
Darrell Guder
Brian McLaren
John Franke

(McLaren’s speaking is also mentioned here:)

Apparently Dave Dunbar and John Franke have recovered from their professed shock and revulsion and sense of betrayal at finding out that Brian McLaren had endorsed Sex and the Single Savior, a book in which homosexual Marxist Dale Martin fantasizes about Thomas being invited to penetrate the holes in Jesus’ body, about group sex between Jesus, Lazarus, Mary and Martha, etc.

Read more here:

Not to mention Dave’s (false) claim to have rid the BTS web site of McLaren about October 2006 (about the time said book came out).

Our readers should also be interested to know that McLaren is supporting Barack Obama for President of the United States. Obama is to the left of all of his colleagues in the US Senate, and as a state senator in Illinois opposed a bill requiring medical personnel to take life saving measures for infants born alive after a botched abortion. Such a "no–brainer" was this bill that when it was introduced at the federal level, every democratic Senator voted for it (yes, including Hillary, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry), and even NARAL did not oppose it. But when such a bill was considered at the state level in Illinois, Obama voted against it. Further, it has recently come to light that he has been lying about his reason for voting against it. In short, he is the most radically pro–abortion candidate for President the Democrats have ever nominated.  Here is NRLC’s flyer on Obama’s record.

In the early 1990’s, Bill Devlin (head of Philadelphia Christian Action Council) and I spoke on the pro–life issue in one of Dave Dunbar’s classes. In those days, Dave even endorsed Operation Rescue type tactics to rescue the victims of abortion. In contrast, Dave claimed in January of 2007 that he was considering going to court to get a restraining order against me to keep me from coming on campus (I had been using the library during my sabbatical; apparently he never considered just asking me to stay away from campus). Times have changed, haven’t they? Brian McLaren, welcome on the BTS campus again. Where will the BTS trajectory end up?

For some time it has been evident that our original "welcome" article to this web site has become obsolete (thus the recent update). In that article we expressed hope for reformation at BTS. It has become pretty clear that those of you who said "It’s not going to happen" are right. I suppose there is also in this announcement a message to Evangelicals, "We can get along fine without you."

No. 1 :
Reading some of Dave Dunbar's recent "Missional Journal" entries, there is the suggestion that Brian McLaren makes outrageous statements in order to "shake things up" and to get people "to think" etc. In short, Dave Dunbar seems to think that McLaren is crazy like a fox. From my way of thinking, the other possibility is more likely - that he is crazy like a heretic. Time will tell.
No. 2 :
"Brian McLaren is a theological liberal in poor disguise" (John MacArthur, January 2006). A well know Evangelical author e-mailed me recently, "Brian McLaren grows more heretical by the week."
